On 6 January the Nasimi District Court of Baku extended for another two months the arrest of an activist of the Popular Front Party Fuad Ahmadli and financial director of the newspaper "Azadlig" Faig Amirov - until March 12, Turan was told by the lawyer Asabali Mustafayev.
The lawyer called unreasonable the extension of the arrest by the public prosecutor.
"The prosecutor's office has motivated the extension by the need to conduct the investigation. It seems that evidence of guilt is collected after his arrest," Mustafayev said, noting that there is no real evidence justifying their detention. "Fuad Ahmadli has no opportunity to influence the course of the investigation or hiding. Why is he kept in custody? " said Mustafayev.
He noted that he had already forwarded to the European Court of Human Rights complaint against the arrest of Ahmadli.
Ahmadli and Amirov were arrested in August 2016 on charges of having links with the Turkish preacher Fethullah Gulen. Ahmadli is accused of distributing personal data of subscribers of "Azerfon" mobile company where he worked. Amirov is accused of inciting sectarian hatred, as a representative of Gulen in Azerbaijan.
